Church of Agios Athenasios

Saint Athanasios, located high in Kiafa, was once a parish church. It is a beautiful stone-built church with a a wooden, painted iconostasis and very old icons. It is said to have been donated by Pope-Antonis Machtas in 1782, although an older, smaller church may have existed at this location.

Ownership was later transferred from Machtas to Apostlis S. Koulouras.

In 1915 it ceased to be a parish church. Saint Athanasius (of Kouloura) is celebrates d twice a year, on January 18 and May 2, and is well cared for by the present owner of the church, Panagiotis Daskalaki.
